Removal of teeth Warsaw

The decision to extract a tooth is never taken rashly. It represents the final stage of treatment and is only considered when other therapeutic methods are unsuccessful or inapplicable. There are a number of clearly defined medical indications that qualify a tooth for extraction:

  • Problematic wisdom teeth:One of the most common causes of surgical consultations is third molars, commonly known as wisdom teeth. Pulsating pain radiating towards the ear or temple, as well as swelling and redness of the gums, may indicate a developing inflammation. Wisdom teeth often remain retained in the bone or only partially erupt, which promotes the accumulation of bacteria and leads to painful, recurrent infections.

  • Irreversible destruction of the tooth: In cases of advanced caries, extensive mechanical damage or root fracture (e.g. vertical), when restorative or prosthetic restoration is not possible, tooth extraction becomes a necessity. This procedure helps prevent abscesses, inflammation and dangerous bone complications.

  • Orthodontic indications: Extraction can be an essential part of an orthodontic treatment plan to allow sufficient space in the dental arch. This is most often the case with wisdom teeth, which can exert pressure on neighbouring molars, leading to damage, decay and root resorption or increased crowding in the anterior segment.

  • Advanced periodontal disease: In the course of periodontitis, gradual bone atrophy and loss of tooth stability occur. When a tooth shows excessive mobility, causes pain when biting or becomes a source of chronic inflammation of the gums. It may then be necessary to remove the tooth to eliminate the inflammatory focus and protect the patient's overall health.

What does a tooth extraction procedure look like at our clinic in Warsaw?

Each extraction procedure in our clinic is carried out according to specific
standards, with the utmost attention to patient safety, comfort and peace of mind. The extraction treatment process involves several carefully planned stages.

  1. Advanced diagnostic imaging: The basis of precise and safe treatment is accurate diagnostics. At our clinic in Warsaw's Wola district, we use a state-of-the-art CS 8200 3D CT scanner, which allows a detailed assessment of the position of the tooth, its relationship to anatomical structures and the surrounding bone. This is particularly important when planning the removal of impacted teeth and wisdom teeth.
  2. Effective and comfortable anaesthesia: Każdą ekstrakcję wykonujemy w skutecznym znieczuleniu miejscowym, dostosowanym indywidualnie do potrzeb pacjenta. Podczas zabiegu pacjent odczuwa jedynie lekki dotyk lub delikatny ucisk — doznania bólowe są całkowicie wyeliminowane.
  3. Precise extraction procedure: Depending on the clinical indications, we carry out a simple extraction, when the tooth is fully visible in the mouth, or a surgical extraction - necessary, for example, in the case of teeth retained in the bone. In situations requiring surgical intervention, the doctor applies sutures, which are usually removed after 7-10 days, ensuring proper healing and post-operative comfort.

Recommendations for the patient after tooth extraction

Correct management after tooth extraction is crucial for rapid healing and prevention of complications.

Immediately after treatment:

  • Gently bite on the sterile gauze pad inserted by the doctor for about 30-60 minutes to allow the clot to form properly.

  • On the day of the procedure, do not rinse the mouth, suck the wound or touch it with your tongue or fingers.

  • Avoid eating and drinking until anaesthesia has fully subsided.

  • In the first 24 hours, avoid physical exertion, bending and lifting heavy objects.

  • Do not consume alcohol, smoke or use e-cigarettes - these substances significantly increase the risk of complications.

  • Consume cool or lukewarm, soft foods; avoid hot drinks and hard and spicy foods.

  • In case of swelling, cold compresses can be applied to the outside of the cheek (15 minutes interval / 15 minutes cooling).

Oral hygiene:

  • Teeth should be brushed as usual, avoiding the wound area directly.

  • From the following day onwards, you can start gently rinsing the mouth as recommended by your doctor (e.g. with an antiseptic preparation).

  • If sutures are in place, follow-up appointments and suture removal should be observed.

Does every wisdom tooth need to be removed?

No, extraction is not always necessary. If the wisdom teeth are fully erupted, correctly positioned in the dental arch (not causing crowding) and healthy, they can function just like other molars. The condition for leaving an eighth is also that the patient can maintain it in perfect hygiene. However, if the tooth causes pain, causes inflammation or threatens neighbouring teeth, the doctor will recommend its removal after analysing the X-ray.

How long does a tooth extraction procedure take?

The duration of the procedure depends on its complexity and the position of the tooth: a simple extraction (when the tooth is fully visible) usually takes a short time, around 15-20 minutes. Surgical extraction (e.g. of a retained tooth in the bone or an unusually positioned eighth) is a more complex procedure and can take between 45 and 90 minutes. Before the procedure, we always inform the patient of the expected duration of the appointment.

When can I return to work or school after tooth extraction?

Most patients feel well enough to return to quiet daily activities, such as office work or studying, the day after the procedure. However, it is important to remember that the natural swelling after an eighth-grain extraction usually reaches its maximum on the second and third day, after which it begins to gradually subside. If you are planning to return to sport and intense exercise, we recommend that you refrain from training for approximately 7-10 days after consultation with your doctor to ensure a safe healing process.

Does wisdom tooth extraction hurt?

At our clinic, patient comfort is a priority. We perform each extraction procedure under effective local anaesthesia, which completely eliminates painful sensations. During the procedure, you may only feel a touch or gentle pressure, but no pain.
