Periodontology - Treatment of gum disease
When should I see a periodontist?
Periodontal diseases often develop silently. Therefore, the first warning signs must not be ignored.
If you notice the following symptoms in yourself, make an appointment immediately:
Bleeding gums for example when brushing or flossing
Bad breath (halitosis), which does not disappear, despite brushing the teeth.
Exposed tooth necks i.e. the impression that the teeth have become „longer”.
Tooth mobility i.e. the feeling that a tooth is moving or has changed its position.
Swelling and redness, or inflammation of the gums.
How do we treat periodontal disease?
We tailor periodontal treatment individually to the severity of the disease. Depending on your needs, we use hygiene, pharmacological or surgical methods.
Basis of treatment. It involves the thorough removal of supragingival and subgingival calculus (scaling), which is the main cause of inflammation of the tissues surrounding the tooth.
Curettage (Pocket cleaning)
A treatment involving deep cleaning of the gingival pockets from tartar and bacteria. This reduces inflammation of the gingiva and increases its adhesion to the tooth surface.
Splinting of loosened teeth
If the teeth are mobile, we connect them with a special fibreglass tape (splint). As a result, we increase their stabilisation and improve biting comfort.
Covering gingival recessions
Periodontal microsurgery procedure. It is used to restore missing gums where the roots of the teeth have become exposed. The procedure improves the aesthetics of the smile and reduces sensitivity.
Periodontist Warsaw - Treatment of periodontitis
Periodontitis - can it be cured?
Periodontitis (severe gum disease) is a chronic disease.
Although bone loss cannot be completely reversed, modern periodontics can effectively halt the progression of the disease.
With regular visits and the patient's cooperation (home hygiene), you can preserve your own teeth for years to come. Therefore, the key to success is to react quickly to the first worrying symptoms.

Does curettage hurt?
No. Curettage, or deep pocket cleaning, is performed under local anaesthetic. As a result, the patient does not feel any pain during the procedure. On the other hand, after the appointment, the gums may be slightly sensitive for 1-2 days, but quickly return to normal.
Can exposed tooth roots be covered?
Yes. In the case of gingival recessions, we perform procedures to cover the recession (often with a graft of the patient's own tissue). As a result, we restore the natural gingival line, which improves the aesthetics of the smile and eliminates cold sensitivity.
How to prevent gum disease?
The most important thing is daily hygiene. This means tooth brushing min. This means brushing at least twice a day and (essential!) cleaning the interdental spaces with floss or an irrigator. In addition, regular hygienization visits every 6 months to the surgery are essential.
Can a gummy smile be corrected?
Yes, overexposure of the gums is a problem that can be effectively addressed. Although it is not a health defect, for many people it is an aesthetic defect. In our clinic, a crown lengthening procedure (gingivoplasty) is performed. It consists of a precise correction of the gingival line, thus exposing a larger area of the tooth. As a result, the smile becomes fuller and more harmonious.
How to fix an uneven gum line on the front teeth?
Asymmetry of the gingival garland is a common aesthetic problem. If the level of the gums over the front teeth is not even, it disturbs the aesthetics of the entire smile. In this case, the solution is a microsurgical correction of the gingival line. This aligns the course of the tissues, making the teeth look even and symmetrical.
